Blackpool
– Poulton le Fylde or was it Hardhorn? September 21st – 23rd What
a busy time we had together yet again! Finding
the site was no problem, I even managed to go in by the correct entrance
this time. The Club had held its first rally of the 2006 season there
previously. We arrived on the Wednesday prior to the rally, Norman and
Marge were already there, offering a welcoming cuppa after our journey
up the M6 from Cannock Chase, where we had spent a few days. There
must have been something in that tea that affected my eyesight we
managed to pitch in the wrong place only to be told by the steward when
he arrived the next day. ‘You might have to move it as we are
expecting 30 units; however we got away without having to move! On
the Friday we went off to explore Cleveleys/Fleetwood, in the pouring
rain, when we got back the site was full and Viv had been rushed off her
feet. She had managed OK, admirably assisted by Marge (Drinks making)
and Norman (Helping people pitch) and when Marge and Norman went for a
walk Steven, Claire and Phil Knight took over, truly a team effort. Why
you may ask? David had to return home to collect Rita who had just been
discharged from hospital. Now there’s dedication, Rita insisting she
wanted to be at the rally and David driving all that way down and back
up the M6!! Saturday
turned out to be a nice day, weather-wise. I
have always said you are never too old to learn. We had been given
directions to a Bargain Shop in St Anne’s but we couldn’t find it.
No wonder we were in Lytham! Up until that day I had always thought that
Lytham St Anne’s was one place. Oh no St Anne’s is three miles up
the coast from Lytham. Found the shop once we were in the right town and
got the bargains. We went back to the site via the main road through
Blackpool, which is not a pretty sight on a Saturday lunchtime. The
coach for the trip through the ’Lights’ arrived early; we boarded
and settled ourselves in for the evening. Well as far as Cleveleys that
was, where the stewards had arranged a ‘Fish Supper’ for us. No
sooner had we sat down in the restaurant and the meals were being
served, excellent fresh fish and non greasy chips, couldn’t be better.
Once refreshed we were off again for the journey through the
‘Lights’, joining the slow moving queue of traffic about a mile
before they started. At Bispham our queue was moving faster than the
trams. They had a breakdown on one of the trams which meant nothing was
moving towards Fleetwood and eventually nothing was coming down from
Fleetwood. Having been on this journey about 15 years ago I personally
thought the illuminations were not as good, particularly south of the
Tower. Never mind we had other distractions to keep us occupied. One of
which was Viv; fending off an inebriated Scotsman who was intent on
joining us. “You can’t come on here it’s not a bus”, “it’s a
private coach” By the time we arrived at the Pleasure Beach they were
closing up. It was past 10 o clock, where had the evening gone. It had
all worked like ‘clockwork’ Sunday
we woke up to light rain, just what we needed for pack up day. It
didn’t last long however we were able to sit out for the Rally
Meeting. Claire had been Raffle I/C, which ended up raising over Ł90
for the Club funds. All in all a good time was had by all. Our sincere
thanks go to the Stewards; Viv, David, Rita; who were ably assisted by
Norman, Marge, Claire Steven and Phil when things got really busy. Ray
